Who is the course designed for

WHO IS THE COURSE DESIGNED FOR

This course is intended for all those involved in projects covered by the current requirements of Building Safety Act 2022, particularly those who will see a higher level of scrutiny under the new regulation, e.g., Senior Managers/Directors in: Design, Construction, and Estate Management.

STRUCTURE OF COURSE

The course follows the structure of the Building Safety Act, with a course module for each section of the act spread over 5 hours of remote online interactive learning:

  • Part (1) Introduction /Overview to the Act
  • Part (2) The Building Safety Regulator and its Functions
  • Part (3) Building control reform.
  • Part (4) Higher-risk buildings in design and construction
  • Part (4A) Higher-risk buildings in occupation
  • Part (5) Other provisions About Safety Standards
  • Part (6) General

What does the course cover?

  • Provide delegates with an understanding of the legal requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022.
  • A thorough understanding of the new Building Safety Act regulations parts 1-6
  • Understanding the role of the Building Regulator
  • Details the importance of planning for and designing for integrated fire safety within construction projects (Golden Thread)
  • Enables delegates to recognise the consequences of not following the Building safety Act regulations within construction and design activities
  • Offers guidance on the roles and responsibilities of key duty holders, including clients, estate Mangers, co-ordinators, designers, principal contractors and sub-contractors

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of Building Safety Act 2022 in relation to design, construction and estate management and how this affects work during design, construction, use, and maintenance.
  • Identify the links between Building Safety Act 2022 and current UK health and safety legislation (including fire safety and the general principles of prevention)
  • Recognise the links between Building Safety Act 2022 and accepted project management processes.
  • Understand the importance of collaborative working and early fire risk identification, resolution, and record keeping.
  • Know how recommended principles can be used to put Building Safety Act principles into practice
  • Understand the process of managing and coordinating The Building Safety Act in design, including: the communication process; collaborative team-based risk management; change management, and impact of design on Fire prevention strategies.
  • Utilise recommended risk management tools (including an introduction to uses for BIM technology) to inform design decisions relating to reasonably foreseeable risks.
  • Understand the role of the client - domestic and commercial - under the Building Safety Act
  • Understand how to use Building Safety Act principles when procuring construction work, including: building the project team; contractual considerations; how client decisions impact on Building Safety Act during design and construction
